Aspiring Pharmacy Technicians were provided a golden opportunity on Thursday to see what the class entails first-hand and witness live medication compounding demonstrations as the Capps Center conducted a Pharmacy Tech showcase.
Christie Middleton, Capps Center workforce coordinator, said the showcase was an opportunity for the students to demonstrate the skills and the things they’ve learned in the program and a good opportunity for the public to get a glimpse and see if it’s really for them and get more information. “We have a lot of people interested in the class,” she said.
The criteria for entering the program are basic, according to instructor Debbie Williams, you must have a high school diploma, be at least 18-years-old, and acquired at least a silver level on the career readiness certificate exam.
Interested persons need to register for the career readiness certificate exam, which can be done online, pass the exam at the required level and pay the fee by Nov. 27 for the spring class that begins January 29.
The class will meet at the Capps Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and day or night sessions are available. Once the student has successfully completed the course they have to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam or the Certified Pharmacy Technician Exam, which are national certifications and then register with the individual state in which they plan to work.
The class is a 16-week course and costs $340, which includes textbook, a practice test and the certification exam fee.
