An investiture ceremony will be held on Friday for United States Bankruptcy Judge Selene Dunn Maddox.
Maddox is the daughter of the late Anne Floyd and Thomas E. Dunn, formerly longtime residents of Indianola.
A release this week said the ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the Thad Cochran United States Bankruptcy Courthouse located in Aberdeen.
United States District Court Chief Judge Sharion Aycock will administer the oath at the event, the release said.
Judge Maddox was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge by the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit effective Oct. 22, the release said.
Pursuant to an agreement between the Courts of Appeals for the Eighth and the Fifth Circuits, she was assigned to serve in the Northern District of Mississippi.
Maddox received her B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1983 and her J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1987.
Prior to her appointment, Maddox was a solo practitioner in Tupelo in the general practice of law with an emphasis in consumer debtor and small business debtor bankruptcy law.
In addition to her private law practice, she served as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Panel Trustee from 2004 until the time of her appointment to the bench.
She has held many leadership positions in the local and state bar associations, as well as served on various legal committees and organizations and has been a frequent speaker on bankruptcy issues.
Maddox has been recognized as a Fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation, an honor reserved for ten percent of attorneys in Mississippi, recognizing the highest level of professionalism, competence and leadership.
Maddox is married to Judge Gregory A. Maddox, formerly of Bruce, who serves as an administrative law judge, and they reside in Tupelo.
