Santa Claus may be on his way back to Indianola. At the request of Indianola Chamber/Main Street President Cherrie Lynn Britt, the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously on Monday night to give her permission to try and reinstate the annual Christmas parade through downtown.
Britt said she has already had conversations with Chief Edrick Hall about the time and the best route for the parade and he has been extremely helpful. She said it was something that was of interest to him as well. “Chief Hall had some great ideas,” Britt said.
She concluded that the last Christmas parade was likely eight years ago. “I think it’s been missed and I’ve had numerous citizens, even when I wasn’t serving as the president, make comments that they wish they would bring that back, especially for the children of Indianola.”
She said a lack of floats and other entries is what contributed to its demise. Britt said people would commit to being in the parade and then back out at the last minute. “It just kind of fizzled out,” she said.
The scheduled date for the upcoming festive procession is December 4 at 6 p.m.

The Aldermen also voted unanimously to allot $2,000 as its annual appropriation in support of the Chamber/Main Street, “Shop Indianola” campaign.
Their official kickoff is set for this weekend and the subtitle is, “I Shop NOLA.” She shared stickers, emblazoned with the logo and asked the city leaders and those in the audience to display the placard as a symbol of remembrance to shop locally.
