The Sunflower County Circuit Clerk’s office will be open this Saturday, Oct. 27 and next Saturday, Nov. 3 between the hours of 8am to 12 pm for absentee voting.
College students who will be outside of the county on Election Day are encouraged to come to the Circuit clerk’s office to vote in person. Otherwise, the application and ballot will have to be mailed to the college residence where the student temporarily resides.
With the exception of military voters, all other absentee ballots will have to be received by mail no later than Monday Nov. 5. at 5 pm.
Anyone who will be working outside of the county or is a student outside of the county is encouraged to come into the office to vote. Anyone who cannot appear before the Circuit Clerk to vote in the office may call and request that the ballot and application be mailed.
The Circuit Clerk’s office said this week it cannot mail to an inside the county address for this reason. The ballot and application must be mailed where you will be temporarily residing on Election Day.
People who are over 65 or disabled can have their ballots mailed to them within the county. Voters may also come into the office to vote in person. The clerk’s office said it cannot do Absentee Curbside. If a person who is disabled wants to vote in the office, they will have to come inside of the courthouse.
Voters must present a photo ID when appearing in person to vote. Only the absent voter or immediate family member can request an application for an absentee ballot.
In the event that there is a runoff election, the deadline to register to vote for that election will be Monday Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. If a voter has to mail a voter registration application in, the clerk’s office will accept the post-mark of Oct. 29 as the official date of registration.
