The City of Indianola is asking citizens to keep their limbs, leaves and other debris out of the street.
According to Public Works Assistant Director Robert Spurlock, the city street sweeper is currently running between five and six days out of the week, but the machine cannot sweep in areas where large piles of limbs and other debris have been discarded.
Spurlock also said that keeping these items out of the streets reduces the risk of accidents as well.
Robin Rosenthal, who spearheads many of the Keep Indianola Beautiful initiatives in the city said that people are also putting limbs and debris in parks and on empty lots.
Since the pickup of these items is tied to the person’s water bill, the city typically does not pick these items up if they are in non-residential locations.
Spurlock said that this has been an ongoing issue in the city, adding that it is not as bad as it once was.
“We just need the citizens’ help to keep Indianola beautiful,” Spurlock said.
