The city has decided to shake up the leadership at the Hough-Dement Animal Shelter.
After retiring to executive session during Monday night’s regular board meeting, the Aldermen returned with a vote to name Melanie “Brooke” Bell the new director of the shelter.
Former director Elizabeth Elmore was moved into the position of animal care officer.
Elmore will be bumped up in pay from $11.50 an hour to $12 an hour, and Bell will begin her post at $12.50 an hour.
Indianola Mayor Steve Rosenthal said the move was not a demotion for Elmore, but it was a lateral move to put her in charge of the day-to-day care of the animals, while giving Bell more administrative authority.
Currently, the animal shelter is short handed and is looking for both full time and part time workers.
