The city of Indianola is currently preparing to host two different festivals this fall.
The Indian Bayou Arts & Eats Festival will take place on Sept. 23, while the BBQ & Blues on the Bayou Festival will kickoff on Oct. 7.
Both events promise to be full of entertainment and each will have a food element.
This will be the first year the Indian Bayou festival will have a food element, with the addition of the Craig Claiborne Pecan Pie Competition.
The Saturday festival in September will run from 9 a.m.until 4 p.m.
Pies entered for judging must be delivered between 9 a.m. and 10 :30 a.m. to festival grounds across from the B.B. King Museum.
Winners will be announced at noon on the main stage.
The entry fee is $10 per category, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Mid-Delta Arts Association.
BBQ & Blues on the Bayou will take place in October at 603 Second St.
Cooks will be able to enter their specialty ribs, chicken or fish.
No gas appliances will be allowed and no electricity will be provided, and all cooks must provide their own supplies and equipment, including tables and chairs.
Setup for the competition will begin at 7 a.m. that morning.
Cost for the 20x15 space is $50
Cash prizes include $300 (first place), $200 (second place) and $100 (third place).
Registration forms are due to the Indianola Chamber of Commerce by Oct. 3.
