Sunflower County voters may not have to wait another eight weeks, after all to get the official results of an intended special and general election .
The deadline to qualify for the Nov. 7 race was Friday, Sept. 8 and the persons currently holding those seats were the only ones to submit the required documentation.
Sunflower County Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton said on Tuesday that only Emma Golden and Edward Thomas who currently hold theDistrict 1 and District 2 county school board seats qualified for the general election, and Terosa Bradley, who was appointed to fill the District 1 Election Commissioners post by the board of supervisors, at the beginning of the year-until a special election could be held-is the only person to qualify for that position.
Since all are unopposed in their individual categories, Hamilton said she believes the election can be suspended. Hamilton said once the commissioners certify the three candidates to the board of supervisors, she will ask the board to suspend the November elections and subsequently send a resolution to the Secretary of State’s office.
The county supervisors are scheduled to meet on Monday.
