Saturday February 15 at 10 a.m., is the date and time set aside for the Sunflower County Democratic Executive Committee’s precinct caucuses. The assemblies, which are held every four years, will take place at designated locations within each of Sunflower County’s 17 voting precincts.
The overall purpose of the caucuses is to elect delegates that will represent at the Sunflower County Democratic Convention on Saturday, March 15.
Sunflower County voters are encouraged to attend the sessions, but in order to participate in the precinct’s caucus or serve as a delegate, voters must sign a pledge affirming that they are a registered voter living in that precinct, that they consider themselves a Democrat and that they are not members of any other political party.
In addition, the persons must 18-years-old or older, or turning 18 on or before November 3 of this year. Additionally, he or she must plan to be properly registered in their precinct by the first Tuesday in November.
Guidelines for the delegates and alternates are set by the state Democratic convention and the representatives must be equally proportioned, male and female.
Sunflower County Democratic Executive Committee Chairman, David Rushing said the selected persons will attend the Sunflower County Democratic Convention on March 14 where they will elect the members of the Sunflower County Democratic Executive Committee.
The elected persons will serve in that position for the next four years, plus choose the delegates who will attend the Second Congressional District Convention and state convention later this year.
