Thomas Edwards, long-time educator and former superintendent of the now defunct Sunflower County School District passed away on Friday at Methodist Hospital in Tennessee.
In a statement from the Sunflower County Consolidated School District, Superintendent Miskia Davis wrote, “The Board of Trustees and the faculty and staff of the SCCSD would like to offer its sincerest condolences to the Edwards family in the passing of our former Superintendent.”
In addition to his position as superintendent, the 70-year-old educator also served as a counselor at Ruleville Central High School and principal at Ruleville Middle and Ruleville Central High. He had also served as Vice-President of Programs and Community Development for Delta Health Alliance.
Davis, who has also spent a considerable amount of her career as an educator in Sunflower County added, “Mr. Edwards epitomized everything good, not only in a leader, but in a person as well. His genuine concern for people was evident in all of his interactions with those in which he came into contact. So many lives have been impacted for the good because of the deeds of Mr. Thomas Edwards. This world could use a lot more like him. He will be sorely missed.”
His services are set for Saturday at noon at Ruleville Central High School.
