For more than two decades, Debbie Gantz has been the epitome of a MDCC Trojan.
The Anatomy and Physiology Instructor has been with the school for more than 23 years as a teacher – and much more.
So much so that she has been named the Trojan Spirit Award Winner for 2019. Each year the Mississippi Delta Community College Alumni Association recognizes a faculty or staff member at Homecoming for his or her distinguished service to the college.
“I was very humbled and excited,” Gantz said of the award. “I was surprised and honored. It’s a wonderful feeling.”
“I truly believe and know that Mississippi Delta changes lives,” Gantz said. “I’m very fortunate to be able to teach students there. It’s a powerful thing to know our school has such an impact on the Delta through our students. I’m thankful that I get to be a part of that.”
In addition to teaching, Gantz has been Director of Alumni Affairs for six years and has been an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa.
She’s been awarded the HEADWAE Award (established by the Mississippi Legislature to annually honor the scholastically talented students and exceptional faculty members of Mississippi's higher education institutions), Lamplighter Award and Phi Theta Kappa Horizon Award while working at MDCC. She’s also the Math and Science Division Chair.
“It’s enriched my life beyond what I could dream of. I love teaching and being a part of Mississippi Delta,” she said. “It’s a wonderful place to be.”
Gantz was presented with the award at MDCC’s award ceremony before the homecoming game this past Saturday.
