As the city gears up for the annual Gentry High School homecoming festivities and the increasingly popular Ultimate Tailgate Party and Cookout that welcomes the school’s graduating classes from 1955 to the present the gauntlet has been thrown down.
The GHS class of 1965 is challenging all other classes to produce a weather-resistant banner to show their school spirit and support for the Rams football team. According to class member Tommy White Jr., they are asking the classes to present the banners by homecoming, if possible, but if they are unable to get them by homecoming, then as soon as possible.
White said they plan to display the banners along the fence surrounding the football field at homecoming and the signs will remain up throughout this season and each subsequent football season. He added that they will be taken down during the winter months and replaced each year.
All graduating classes, since the school’s inception, are encouraged to participate. These tributes of Rams identity and community will be on display perpetually.
