No one can tell a story quite like Walt Grayson.
The weatherman, broadcaster, narrator, TV show host and writer found time to drop in on the Indianola Rotary Club last week to see some old friends and tell a few of his favorite stories from his travels around Mississippi, including the Delta.
Grayson began his career in broadcasting at WLBT in Jackson as a weatherman, backing up longtime weather prognosticator Woodie Assaf.
Grayson said that the network was certain Assaf was on the brink of retirement, but his tenure ended up lasting a lot longer than expected.
In the meantime, Grayson honed his broadcasting and storytelling skills doing feature stories with the station. When it was all said and done, he found he enjoyed that more than sitting in the Channel 3 weather center, watching the radar.
Grayson has hosted the segment, Look Around Mississippi and the MPB show Mississippi Roads, for many years.
He is the author of several books, including Looking Around Mississippi.
Grayson was the guest of Rotarian David Baird.
