An elite society that boasts the names Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Charles Darwin and Sigmund Freud can now add Dr. Leslie Ray Matthews to the list. The Royal Society of Medicine, Wall of Honor Unveiling Ceremony was held in London, England Sunday, March 31, and Matthews’ name was engraved onto the wall. This elite group (the Genius Group) includes British royalty and some of the brightest physicians, scientists, and researchers.
An Indianola native and Gentry High School graduate, Matthews has pioneered high dose vitamin D in the treatment of trauma/critically ill patients, traumatic brain injury patients, congestive heart failure, concussions and neurodegenerative diseases.
“I am humbled that a little boy from the Mississippi Delta would even be considered to join this prestigious group,” Matthews said. “I am grafetul to God Almighty, my late parents, Rev. John and Missouri Matthews ( who were individually world famous), citizens of Indianola, The Enterprise Tocsin staff ( first job), teachers/mentors at Gentry High School, Ole Miss, Morehouse School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic ( Rochester, Minnesota) who all factored into any success that I have had. Indianola is now permanently engraved in medical history in London, England. The best is yet to come.”
