Timothy J. Jones, who was arrested in January of 2018 on charges related to the December 2017 burglary and fire that destroyed the Stauffer-Wood Administration Building on the campus of Mississippi Delta Community College, was arraigned in Sunflower County Circuit Court on Monday and his trial date is expected to be set during the week of Feb. 11.
Jones was an Indianola resident and business owner at the time of his arrest. The next scheduled Circuit Court term is not until June, however it is unknown at this time if Jones’ trial will be a part of that docket because there are older cases that still have to be tried.
He was formally indicted on Jan. 7 on charges of burglary, first-degree arson, third-degree arson and grand larceny in relation to the incident.
An arraignment is simply a formal reading of a criminal-charging document in the presence of the defendant and in response, the defendant is expected to enter a plea.
