A person of interest taken into custody on Sunday in relation to a Sunday morning homicide in Sunflower has been officially charged, and according to Sunflower Police Chief Bobby Walker Municipal Court Judge Kuykendall Murry set a $1 million bond for Albert Carpenter III.
Walker said Carpenter is being charged with first-degree murder, domestic violence and breaking and entering. “The evidence that we’ve gotten so far, everything leads directly to him,” Walker said.
Carpenter has been held in the Sunflower County jail since being taken into custody as a person of interest on May 24.
The body of Constance Russell, a mother of two and the reported onetime girlfriend of Carpenter, was found unresponsive in her home at the Sunflower River apartment complex with a gunshot wound to the head. Carpenter and Russell reportedly had a six-month old child together.
Chief Walker expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of the victim.
