A Ruleville teenager is in jail following a Friday night shooting that left one man dead.
Tellie Robertson, 18 of 302 Skeeter Robinson Road in Ruleville was arrested and booked into the Sunflower County Jail around 5:25 a.m., Saturday morning and charged with murder.
Robertson allegedly shot and killed Walter Clark at a house in the 400 block of East Harrison Street just west of the Double Quick store on U.S. 49. He had his initial appearance before Judge Kuykendall Murry earlier in the week and his bond was set at $100,000.
According to Captain Amos Mitchner, Clark was found lying at the edge of the driveway with two gunshot wounds to his back. Mitchner said Clark was alive when he arrived, but died shortly after. An ambulance and the coroner were called and Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ruleville police dispatchers received the call at 10:57 p.m. and arrived within a minute, Mitchner said. Reportedly three shots were fired, but only two actually hit Clark, three shell casings were found in the driveway.
Acting on a tip, police went to Robertson’s parent’s home, but he wasn’t there. The parents later brought him to the police station, and according to Mitchner, the 18-year-old admitted to Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officers that he fired the shots.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear but is believed to be due to a verbal dispute.
