A stolen bus found stopped in the middle of Lincoln Street has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Indianola man.
Kevon Deuntaye Betties of 705 Roosevelt Street was arrested on Feb. 28, had his initial appearance before Municipal Judge Kuykendall Murry and was denied bond because at the time of the alleged theft he had an active felony warrant related to another incident that is still under investigation by the Indianola police department.
Betties was charged with motor vehicle theft and grand larceny. On the morning of February 20, a Save the Children Early Head Start Center employee reported that when he arrived at the center a bus was missing. He later notified police that he spotted the missing yellow transport abandoned in the middle of Lincoln Street.
Video surveillance footage allegedly showed four men walking near the center, getting onto the bus and one of the men driving it away. At around 2 p.m., Betties was spotted on Roosevelt Street again and police were called. Officers spoke to him, determined he had a warrant and arrested him.
Betties allegedly admitted that he was involved with the theft but was not the driver and would not give officers any information about the other persons involved. Betties remains in the Sunflower County jail.
