Bryan Nelson, who had been charged in the November 2015 murder of Demarcus Tyler of Drew, pled guilty this week in Sunflower County Circuit Court.
According to Sunflower County District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson, Nelson, 28, decided to plea to the charge of Second Degree Murder before Judge Richard Smith, before trial was set to begin.
The shooting occurred on Nov. 21 of that year, according to the release, at the Unique Social Club in Drew.
Richardson said Nelson walked into the club and shot Tyler with a .380 caliber handgun.
Witnesses identified Nelson as the shooter, and he turned himself in to police about an hour after the shooting occurred.
Nelson was sentenced to 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and he must serve 20 of those years without the possibility of parole and remain on probation for the remaining five years, if released.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Takiyah Perkins, the release said.
