Three suspects accused of a New Year’s Eve shooting and assault on an Indianola man are still on the loose, however police Sgt. Irish Johnson said he has been in communication with the U.S. Marshals about apprehending them.
According to Johnson, King Williams III, 25, 219 Maybelle Street was shot in the foot, beaten and robbed on Dec. 31, and as of Wednesday, police were still looking for the three suspects.
Johnson said the men, all of whom King knows, came to King’s uncle’s home in the 300 block of Garrard Road around 8 p.m., and rushed in with guns asking him to “give it up.”
King reportedly said that when he asked what they were talking about, the men began shooting and a bullet hit him in the left foot. The men then drug him to the porch, assaulted him, and stole $450 and his iphone before running away.
The police were able to trace King’s cell phone to the home of one of the suspects’ mother, but he was not there at the time and the mother was reportedly uncooperative.
Johnson said they recovered one spent round and the police report indicates that it was from a .22 caliber handgun. A 30-year-old Galaxie Circle man and a 31-year-old Whittington Drive man are named in the report and Johnson said the third suspect is known by nickname only at this time.
Johnson said the men would be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery.
In an unrelated incident, on Jan. 1 at 1:51 a.m., a U.S. 82 woman said her 16-year-old son was accidently sprayed with buckshot. Sgt. Irish Johnson said the mother’s boyfriend’s gun jammed when he was firing it on New Year’s Eve, he then pointed it toward the ground and the gun went off, hitting the boy in the neck, leg, arm and chest.
He was taken to South Sunflower County Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Johnson said other bystanders were reportedly hit but none came forth.
