Moorhead Police Chief Bobby Walker and his department will present a domestic violence awareness symposium at the Moorhead Community Room next month.
The summit will take place on June 6 at 6 p.m.
Walker said the purpose of the meeting is to educate women and men about domestic violence, how to spot the early warning signs while dating and avoid getting into the situation in the first place.
He said people need to find out as much as possible about the person they are dating and that domestic abuse can be both physical and verbal. “Saying I’m sorry is not enough,” he said.
The special guest speaker for the event will be Yolanda Turner Evans, who is a domestic violence survivor. Her daughter, who will also share her views on domestic violence from a child’s perspective, will introduce her.
In addition, there will be presentations from Judge Kuykendal Murry who will talk about how she handles domestic violence cases in her courtroom and Dilworth Rick of Our House, Inc., who will dispense information on the resources and services available to victims of domestic violence.
