An economic development announcement is expected within the next week that could bring a new company and jobs to Sunflower County.
Details are still being kept confidential, but it is apparent from this week’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors that the company will occupy a portion of the Monsanto building in Indianola.
The board is currently considering authorizing and approving a loan on behalf of the county from the Mississippi Development Authority to renovate a “county-owned structure” for a proposed industrial prospect.
Board Attorney Johnny McWilliams said, “The $1.5 million loan that we’ll be seeking, and holding a public hearing on at our next board meeting, will be for renovations to a portion of the Monsanto Building.”
McWilliams said the prospect has asked for confidentiality until the process is further along.
However, Board President Glenn Donald said there will be a public announcement on July 9.
He said the announcement from MDA will be its second new prospect on that day, and it will bring jobs to the county.
