Clyde H. Morgan of Brandon is a highly decorated, retired Army infantry soldier with a seemingly unending list of credentials and accomplishments that span more than seven decades and now he can add special guest speaker for last Wednesday’s Indianola Lions Club session to his list.
During his talk, Morgan captivated the audience at the noonday gathering with accounts of his childhood and college experiences, his tour of duty serving as a soldier and commander during the Vietnam War, as well as his time since then, as a military liaison, educator, tactical and weapons trainer and shooting center owner.
Over the course of time, Morgan has given several presentations and offered up his opinions on how the U.S. could have won the conflict with less casualties on its side and has also received criticism for implying that war is enjoyable, “Not so, but it can have its moments,” he said.
Calling on his wide-ranging knowledge and experiences with firearms and combat training, the expert marksman also shared a myriad of gun safety rules and tips for safe handling.
The Vietnam veteran has an extensive civilian and military educational background that includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, a Master’s of Religious Education degree and a Doctorate of Education designation and has executed the duties of an acting or associate dean of continuing education at the collegiate level.
His military education reflects concentrations in Army Infantry courses, parachuting and graduate level studies at the U.S. Army War College.
He has served as military police and accumulated numerous awards including several bronze stars and medals for valor and meritorious service.
As a private business owner the former Army weapons instructor, range officer and consultant, along with his staff, provide training in everything from church security to disaster survival.
The Forest, Mississippi native, who now resides in Brandon, was invited and introduced by Lion David Jenkins.
