The 2017 Indianola municipal race has already begun to show indications of signage vandalism as candidates are claiming intentional damage to their political signs.
Some signage may have fallen victim to blustery weather and some improper installation, but others show definite signs of malicious intent.
Police chief Edrick Hall said that although no one has filed an official report, he is aware and has noticed some of the damage. He said that since the signage is all across the city it is difficult to predict when and where, “However we are increasing patrols in highly traveled areas and will be using unmarked vehicles at night to monitor signage,” he said.
Hall said it is still up to the candidates to pursue any charges levied against a person before his officers can take any actions. “We can’t sign an affidavit, the victim of the crime must do so,” he added.
The democratic primary is set for October 10, and that will determine if there is a need for a run-off. Three persons are vying for the democratic nomination, and only one Alderman is running unopposed.
