In his second day on the job, Moorhead police chief Bobby Walker found himself investigating a Facebook-induced shooting that left one man in the hospital, three arrested and the lingering possibility of more arrests.
Walker said a brawl erupted sometime shortly after the Double Quick store in Moorhead closed at midnight last Wednesday, and at some point, shots were fired and Xavier Appleberry, of Sunflower, was hit.
Walker said Appleberry was transported and at last check was in stable condition in a Jackson hospital.
Arrested are Shamarion Bush, 22, and Laderious Moore, 19. Both are charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.
Frederick Minton, of Sunflower, turned himself in to Moorhead police on Wednesday. He had been charged with aggravated assault.
Minton was accompanied to the police station by his father, Walker said.
Minton is alleged to have assaulted Moore with a handgun during the fight and police also need to determine if that gun was the same one used to shoot Appleberry.
An amateur video posted on Facebook shows the encounter and a portion of the ensuing parking lot clash. Walker said they are using that video to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing, and at this point, it is unclear who actually shot Appleberry.
Walker said apparently the conflict between the men stemmed from an exchange of messages between two women on the social media site that brimmed over and resulted in their “significant others” getting involved.
Walker said an Indianola woman is also a person of interest, although no charges have been filed against her yet.
