Plans for a Domino’s-anchored multi-tenant building along U.S. 82 have been scrapped, but the franchise is still coming to Indianola in 2018.
According to developer Sam Rosenthal, Domino’s will fill the end cap of his shopping center at the corner of 82 and Faisonia Avenue in the spot currently leased by Subway.
Subway will vacate the building on June 30, and owner Sukhpreet Brar plans to build a new 1,800-square-foot Subway restaurant at the corner of Sunflower Ave. and 82.
In March, Rosenthal announced that Domino’s had signed a lease to occupy 1,800 square feet of a 4,200-square-foot development that would be built near the shopping center that houses Los Molcajetes Mexican Restaurant and Young’s Beauty & Fashions.
With Subway leaving, Rosenthal said the best course was to move Domino’s into that location.
“For me, it was a no-brainer,” Rosenthal said.
He said he will take possession of the building on July 1 and will begin demolition for Domino’s in the 2,200-square-foot location. He said the restaurant will include a covered drive-thru with two windows.
He expects Domino’s to be open by early fall.
Meanwhile, Subway’s Brar said he expects construction to begin soon on the new building, and he said he expects it to be open by the end of July.
Brar said it will be the first of its kind in Mississippi.
“It will be the first Fresh Forward design in the state of Mississippi,” Brar said.
Subway’s Fresh Forward design was unveiled last July, and according to Restaurant News, the new concept combines updated décor and new technology.
The location will also have a drive-thru.
Brar said he expects this location to do well in Indianola.
“I think that’s the perfect location in Indianola,” Brar said. “After looking at the demographics, it’s a wonderful location.”
Rosenthal said that other opportunities for new construction at the originally proposed Domino’s site could present themselves.
He said he is currently in talks with a potential tenant that could lead to a single-tenant structure being built there.
