Indianola Police Chief Edrick Hall is investigating an incident that allegedly happened on Sunday at a house fire in the southwest portion of the city.
Preliminary information suggests it involved the misconduct of a city official.
Mayor Steve Rosenthal said he received multiple complaints from citizens and the homeowner so he has asked Hall to interview and take statements from the witnesses who were at the scene to determine what if anything actually did take place.
Rosenthal said he could not verify the reported details of the incident but admitted that it involved a yet-to-be named official. He added that he hopes the allegations are not true and that he's trying to give the person the benefit of the doubt, but if it is found to be accurate the city will follow the proper course of action.
Rosenthal said police will give him a report and he will in turn discuss it with the board. He had planned to meet with the individual on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
