Ice cream may mean a lot of things to a lot of people but to Verlie Price, it is a way for her to reach out and touch others.
This year makes twelve years since Verlie Price established CVP Ice Cream Company. A road of triumph lead her into the unique business venture.
The death of Price’s first husband made it difficult for her to continue with her original job that require her to focus on paperwork. An ad in a newspaper, led her to apply for a position on an ice cream truck. Price worked on the truck for several months without receiving her promised pay.
“In August , God gave me my 1995 GMC truck” said Verlie Price, CEO of CVP Ice Cream Company. “I drove that truck for seven years and in 2015, God gave me a 2015 truck to sell ice cream out of and I’ve been going strong ever since.”
Besides ice cream, she also has cookies, candy, and pops.
“I think my job is to come and put a smile on someone's face,” said Price. “I love to see the children’s faces light up when they see the truck but not only the children, their mothers and fathers too.So I think that is what God put me in charge of this truck to do.”
Price is originally form Marigold, Miss. She started off there and expanded. Recently she began bringing her business to Indianola. Originally, she passed through on her way to Belzoni. Price was afraid to come to Indianola because of violence. Her visits to a nursing home changed her perspective and added Indianola to the ice cream route.
Price said to herself, “Let me just try it.” Her faith reassured her that it was the right move.
“He covered me everywhere else, He will cover me here.”
The typical work day for Price begins at 4 p.m and ends around 8 p.m. Ice Cream season begins in March and lasts until November.
“I ride with one body in the truck but I know, I'm never alone.”
“I never thought I would work for myself, but God” said Price. “I didn't know anything about an ice cream truck.”
