With only one day left to qualify for the August 6 Primary Election, two more names have been added to the list of hopefuls vying for seats in Sunflower County’s political arena.
Democrat Lester Williams is now one of six persons hoping to get elected to the northern district judge’s spot vacated by Judge Stafford Shurden and democratic candidate Thomas Townsend has joined the northern district constable race.
The Sunflower County Circuit Clerk’s office is reporting receipt of qualifying papers on each of them in addition to all of the other qualifiers.
So far, the chancery clerk, circuit clerk, tax assessor/collector, coroner, southern district justice court judge, southern district constable and the districts 4 and 5 supervisors are all running unopposed.
The qualifying deadline is tomorrow at 5 p.m.
