Individuals seeking to qualify for Indianola’s municipal primary in October have until 5 p.m. tomorrow to qualify.
A recently-passed state law now dictates that the qualifying deadline must be 60 days before the primary instead of 30.
As of deadline this week, 13 people have successfully filed papers seeking qualification as Democratic candidates for the Oct. 10 Primary Election.
House Bill 467, enacted in July, requires the Indianola Democratic Primary be rescheduled because the city’s special charter makes no provision for a specific Primary date, so it has to follow state guidelines.
And in the event of a runoff, it will be held Oct. 31, but the Dec. 12 date of the General Election remains unchanged.
The most significant effect of this change has been the rescheduling of the deadline to submit qualifying papers for candidacy. All persons who plan to run must turn in their paperwork to the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. Friday August 11.
