Sunflower County is getting ready for another round of elections.
It won’t be on the same scale as the 2019 election cycle, but according to Sunflower County Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton, the qualifying period for election commissioners starts today and ends June 1.
“All of the districts are up for reelection,” she told The E-T this week.
Qualification requires the candidate has never been convicted of a felony, they are a residents of the district they are running in and are registered to vote, along with getting 50 signatures of electors from the district they are seeking.
The Yazoo Levee Board Commissioners seats are also up for reelection in 2020, she said.
That qualifying period is only one week, which begins Jan. 2 and ends Jan 10.
Candidates can run on a party ticket with a $100 fee. They can also run as an independent, which will require 50 signatures and a qualifying fee of $100.
The presidential primary election will be March 10, 2020 and the general election will be held Nov. 3.
