Charles and Linda Davis started their Indianola-based real estate business out of their home over two decades ago.
Since 1997, they have operated Charles Davis Real Estate & Construction from 300 West Gresham Street.
That was until winds from a storm system that passed through last Wednesday night and Thursday morning pulled an oak tree from the ground and tipped it directly into the side of the building, destroying a large portion of the business.
“The storm that caused the large oak tree to fall into our office did lots of damage and we will not be able to repair it,” the couple said in a statement to The E-T this week. “The good news is that no one was hurt, and we were able to salvage all our files and most of our electronics. We are in full operation in our home where we started.”
Before they bought the West Gresham estate, the couple began their real estate business 24 years ago in their home.
“At that time there were several other real estate companies in town and we had to work really hard to establish our business,” Linda Davis said. “Through hard work and good business practices, we managed to build up a really profitable business.”
They have weathered many storms within the real estate industry, including the crash of 2008, and they said this week that the last three years have been their best in sales, listings and appraisals in Sunflower County.
Linda Davis said they are in search of a new permanent home for their business.
“We will be looking for a permanent location for our real estate office,” she said. “The most important thing to us is to assure all our clients and customers that we are continuing to work hard for them and it is business as usual at Davis Real Estate.”
