Robin Rosenthal will return to her role with the Keep Indianola Beautiful program.
Rosenthal, who is the wife of Indianola Mayor Steve Rosenthal, announced in a letter this week that she has renewed her commitment to the organization, after submitting her letter of resignation back in October.
Rosenthal’s most recent letter appears on page 5.
Rosenthal resigned from the volunteer position of director of the Keep Indianola Beautiful program following the Oct. 9 meeting of the Indianola Board of Aldermen. During that meeting, Rosenthal had requested the board help with some expenses related to a conference she wanted to attend on behalf of Keep Indianola Beautiful.
The board voted against the reimbursement, and during the same meeting, Alderman Marvin Elder made remarks about Rosenthal’s reported use of the city’s credit card to purchase items from Walmart for the organization.
Rosenthal walked out of the meeting and later that week she announced her resignation in a letter to The E-T.
Over the next few weeks, support for Rosenthal grew, and a large group of citizens showed up to the Oct. 25 meeting of the board to voice their displeasure with how the board handled the situation.
A motion was made by Alderman Gary Fratesi, and seconded by Alderman Darrel Simpson, for the city to write a letter of apology to Rosenthal, but it was voted down 3-2, with Elder, and Aldermen Ruben Woods and Sam Brock voting nay.
Rosenthal said in her letter this week that she was inspired by the support and looks forward to working on many more projects in the future.
