It’s back-to-school time, classes started for many of the Delta’s schools this week and to celebrate the start, several schools across the Sunflower County Consolidated School District held back-to-school fairs.
On Thursday, the faculty and staff of the Ruleville Central High School gathered at the school’s gymnasium to welcome parents and students and allow the community a chance to meet the teachers and staff.
The event also brought in a number of financial, health and wellness and educational consultants. The attendees were treated to free food and drink plus some were lucky enough to take home cash and prizes.
Lakisha Butler, project director and Marvin Blackmon, administrative assistant, Delta Educational Opportunity Center, represented just one of the vendors who showed up to offer their services to the parents and community.
Butler said the purpose of DEOC is to increase secondary education success, to help students be able to enroll in post secondary educational institutions. They assist with ACT registration, completing financial aid and college application forms and more.
The center is housed on the campus of Delta State University and serves 12 counties.
Alshunda Quinn, founder and owner of Allie Quinn Consulting, LLC, said her company specializes in personal growth and professional development with a focus on education, leadership, management and planning.
