According to information published in the Bolívar Commercial newspaper, the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department responded to two bomb threats last week at Faurecia Automotive Seating, a local manufacturing business.
Law enforcement agents ultimately arrested 21-year-old Derrickus Brown of Ruleville for making a terroristic threat and making a bomb threat.
The first call reportedly came in on Monday with a second one on Wednesday; the threat on Wednesday mentioned specific employees as the target.
Based on information contained in the article, someone called Faurecia and said a bomb was in the building. However, when emergency personnel arrived at the Delta Council Drive location they did not find any suspicious items or explosive devices.
The Bolivar County Emergency Management Agency and K-9 bomb sniffing dogs from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, Southaven Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol apparently searched the building and cleared it of any suspicious items or explosive devices.
Brown had been employed at Faurecia for a short time before allegedly calling in the bomb threats. He was remanded to the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility to await his initial appearance.
Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams Sr., is quoted as saying, “We are extremely grateful the threats were false and no one was injured as a result of the threats. These type of crimes tie up our deputies and deprive Bolivar County residents of law enforcement services and drive-up response times because of the amount of manpower needed to contain such a large crime scene.”
