The murderers of a Holly Ridge man remain at large, and Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood is asking anyone with any information in the death of 38-year-old Marcelino Torres to come forward.
Haywood said he is interviewing people and developing the leads that he has but is still awaiting the return of the evidence sent to the crime lab,
“They are backed up down there,” he said.
Haywood is reaching out to the public, especially the Hispanic community.
“Somebody knows something, come forward, don’t be afraid,” he said.
On Dec. 8, around 2 a.m., intruders took Torres’ life during an apparent home invasion.
Haywood said at the time, at least two armed suspects forced their way, through a front door, into Torres’ home at 41 Holly Ridge Road, and shot him.
Torres was taken to the hospital following the incident and passed away less than four hours later.
Although robbing Torres was the perceived intended object of the attack, Haywood presupposes that the assailants were in the process of robbing Torres’ roommate when Torres came in, interrupted and startled them, which resulted in his fatal injury.
