Indianola is looking to rebound its image in 2020.
A committee of citizens and business owners, which has been convening with Indianola Chamber Main Street since 2019 is launching an anti-littering campaign this month.
Slam Dunk the Junk will be the year-long theme of this quality of life initiative.
“As we begin a new year and a new decade, we hope you will join us as we strive to clean up our city,” the committee said in a letter to the editor, which appears on page 4.
Current committee members include Maggie Barnes , Victor Byas, Randy Randall, Carla Jenkins, Charlene Walker and Tommie White.
One of the committee members, Randy Randall, said the campaign will mainly focus on combatting the city’s litter problem by educating the citizens on things they can do to keep the city clean.
Some tips include picking up litter in yards, around neighborhoods, keeping yards mowed and properly maintained and many others that are listed in detail on page 4.
The committee has received seed money from an anonymous businessman to purchase and replace several modern metal garbage cans that will be placed in strategic areas around the city.
Robin Rosenthal, who has been the director of Keep Indianola Beautiful for several years has been meeting with the committee regularly, and the new initiative will work hand-in-hand with Rosenthal’s project Randall said.
