Sunflower-Humphreys Counties Progress Inc. is once again calling on churches and other organizations to help sponsor this year’s Summer Feeding Program.
Monica Hope, Finance Director and Nutrition Assistant at SHCPI said this week that the program will kick off June 1 and will run through July 31 this year.
“Children can receive meals when they are hungry,” Hope said.
The Summer Feeding Program is designed to give youth in the community access to food during the summer months.
Many children receive two meals per day at school, Hope said and many are reliant on those for nutrition.
The Summer Feeding Program offers two meals per day for children in the community.
Hope said the program gives out tens of thousands of meals each summer.
“We can take the place of school,” Hope said.
