The Mississippi Library Commission has awarded more than $7 million in grants to public libraries across the state, and Sunflower County will receive just under $100,000.
By way of state and federal aid, the MLC allocated the funding to 53 library systems statewide, a release from the commission said.
Sunflower County’s library system will receive $86,709 from state aid and $10,985 from federal aid for a total of $97,694.
The funds were administered as grants and statewide services, the release said. The state of Mississippi was the source of $6.7 million of the funds, with the rest being doled out under the Grants to States program administered by the Institute of Museum & Library Services.
Funding from the State of Mississippi provided employee benefits throughout the state for library staff members; these funds also enabled each of the 53 public library systems to maintain highly qualified library professionals, MLC said.
