A newly formed group of young men calling themselves, United Men of Indianola, have undertaken an endeavor to sponsor a relief effort for recent hurricane victims in Texas.
The men plan to supply food and water to first responders and other storm-related needs for those affected by the recent hurricane, including clothing and supplies.
Mayor Steve Rosenthal has given them use of the old National Guard Armory building, on the corner of Park Avenue and Baker Street, to collect and store the donated items.
Spokesperson for the group, Willie James Roscoe said they have already begun receiving donations and they will be at the facility Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
They are asking individuals and businesses to contribute non-perishable food items, water, clothes and other supplies, but no cash.
Roscoe said the group of 28 to 32-year-olds has been working together for several months and their main purpose is to show the youth that much can be accomplished by working together. He said their goal is to show forth a positive image in the community.
