As of Wednesday afternoon, no one had officially filed for any of the seats for the upcoming municipal elections. Indianola, Inverness, Moorhead, Sunflower, Ruleville and Drew all reported that interested parties have picked up packets for the 2025 election cycle, but none had returned those. Meanwhile, the City of Drew is preparing for a special election on January 21 to fill the vacancy in Ward 1 as a result of the passing of Ben Alexander. Alexander had served as Ward 1 Alderman for seven-and-a-half years until his death late last year. Nathan Moore and Tierra Fountain have qualified for that race, according to the city clerk.
Qualifying for the regular election cycle began on Jan. 2 and will last through Jan. 31 for the county’s municipalities, with the exception of the City of Indianola, which is on a special charter. Indianola’s qualifying period will run through Aug. 25. All other municipalities will have their primary elections on April 1, primary runoffs on April. 22, general election on June 3 and new terms begin on July 1. Indianola’s primary will be October 14, 2025.
