Bonnie Lynn McElroy Anthony, 99, of Indianola, passed away, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.
Bonnie was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Potts Camp, to Steve and Odie Mae Parkerson McElroy. She married Leroy Anthony and together they made their home in Indianola. Bonnie and Leroy owned Leroy Anthony Farms and farmed together for many years. After his death, she hired a farm manager and continued to farm. Bonnie was a very special person; she was strong and very independent. When she was younger, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and showing horses. She also enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers. Bonnie was always very determined – she lived by herself and did her own house cleaning at 99 years old. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Bonnie definitely leaves a legacy of hard work, determination and love with her family.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Anthony; sister, Elouise; and two grandsons, Bob Crawford and Eric Van Crawford.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Crawford (Bobby) of Indianola, Pat Lyon (Carlis) of Indianola, and Melanie Roper (William) of La Jolla, Calif.; one son, Jeff Anthony of Indianola; brother, Pete McElroy of Aberdeen; sister, Janice Miller (Paul) of Pearl; six grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service began at 3 p.m. and burial followed at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
