Carol Ann Crook Skelton, 83, of Indianola, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Carol Ann was born December 11, 1939, in Belzoni, to Robert Austin Crook and Lillian Lucille Morris Crook. She was a graduate of Indianola High School Class of 1957 and attended nursing school prior to meeting her husband John Carl at the age of 17. Carol Ann worked at Lewis Grocer Company for a few years prior to going to work for Farm Bureau Insurance in Indianola. She was successful selling insurance and won a trip to Europe for her sales. Carol Ann then began working for Planters Bank in Indianola as a teller and eventually moved up becoming a loan officer, Branch Manager, and Vice President. She retired from the bank after 41 years of service. Carol Ann was a devoted mother and would sacrifice anything for her children. The most important thing she gave them was love. Together, they made many fun and happy memories that will help sustain them in their loss. Carol Ann was a devout Christian, and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Indianola.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Lillian Crook; husband, John Carl Skelton, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Skelton Marshall; granddaughters, Mary Katherine and Lauren Elizabeth Marshall; and brother, William Robert “Bubba” Crook.
Carol Ann is survived by her two sons, John C. Skelton, III of Indianola and Ryan Skelton of Brooklyn, New York; and one grandson, Joshua Marshall.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church in Indianola. The funeral service began at 11:00 am, with Dr. Guy Burke officiating. Burial followed in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
