Carolyn Staten Goss, 69, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023.
Carolyn was born Nov. 28, 1953, in Ruleville, to Ray and Eloise Price Staten. She was a loving spirit and tried to help everyone she could. Carolyn learned this at an early age after her father lost his arm in a cotton gin accident. She stepped up to work to help provide for her siblings and to help care for them. Carolyn was a giving person; she opened her home to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Staten; mother, Eloise Soto; and half-sister, Wanda Pulliam.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 34½ years, Loy Goss Jr. of Cleveland; two stepdaughters, Laura Stringer (Jeremiah) of Las Vegas and Samantha Montemayor (Ramon) of Boyle; sister, Mary Vandeventer Hendricks (David) of Bloomfield, Ind.; brother, George Staten of Indianapolis, Ind.; two half-brothers, Dion Griffin (Jennifer) of Trafalgar, Ind. and Ike Soto (Angie) of Greenville; two half-sisters, Dawn Smith (Rick) of Indianapolis, Ind. and Tammy Davis (Isaac) of Boyle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service began at 2 p.m. Burial follow at Itta Bena Cemetery in Itta Bena. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
