Dr. W. Bernard Ellis, age 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at his son’s residence in Pontotoc.
He was born Nov. 15, 1941 in Glen Allen to William Claude and Inez Holloway Ellis and lived in Doddsville. Dr. Ellis was a member of Roundaway for many years and was very active in the community. He was scoutmaster, a member of Indianola Recreation Association, Indianola Lions Club, Indian Bayou Archery Club, Jackson Eye Institute, Mississippi Optometric Association, and the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Dr. Ellis took a mission trip every year to Mexico with a team from the Baptist Association. He was an Optometrist for 56 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Waide Ellis; three sisters, Claudette Ellis Reese, Judy Ellis Schoenfeld and Daphene Ellis Handy; and a brother, Robert Delwood Ellis.
He is survived by his son, W. Bernard Ellis Jr. of Ramer, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Christian Skylar Ellis, W. Bernard Ellis II and Zachary Ellis, all of Ramer, Tenn. He also is survived by a foster daughter, Daria Kavaliova Lorio-Barsten.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5 from 10 a.m. until the 11a.m. funeral service at Roundaway Baptist Church in Doddsville. The Rev. Bob Hill will officiate at the services.
