Georgia Laverne Eldridge, 80, of Shaw, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 at her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1938 in Sledge and was the daughter of Doyce Oakland and Annie Mae Welch.
Laverne married Charles R. L. Eldridge in Feb., 1954. She lived much of her life in the Delta having lived in Indianola, Inverness and settling in Shaw. For over twenty years she worked in advertising for SuperValu before her retirement.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband loved to travel. Laverne could always be found working a crossword puzzle or playing games on her computer and she enjoyed sewing. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Indianola.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susananne Eldridge; four brothers, John, Gerald, Bobby and Darvin; and two sisters, Sibyle Stacy and Frances Pratt.
She is survived by one daughter, Billie Jean Wiley and her husband Carl of Shaw; two sons, Charles Earl Eldridge of Indianola and Donald Ray Eldridge and his girlfriend Darlene Craig of Shaw; one brother, Jim Welch and his wife Patsy of Leland; one sister, Lois Mitchell and her husband James of Indianola; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness.
