James Edward "Jimmy" Odom, 70, of Inverness, passed away Dec. 20, 2017, in Brandon, with his loving family by his side. He was born Nov. 24, 1947 in Aberdeen and was the son of Edward Franklin Odom and Dorothy Faye Hutchins Neal. After retiring from Lewis Grocer Company, and during his 40-year career in the grocery industry, Mr. Odom served as store manager in various locations. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Inverness.
Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Neal; and a sister, Verda Mae Prince. He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Jimbo Odom and wife Yvonne of Brandon and T. J. Odom and wife Leslie of Brevard, N. C.; four brothers, Charles Odom and wife Brenda of Stonewall, Miss., Terry Odom and wife Kaye of Yazoo City, Ronnie Neal and wife Sharon of Belzoni, and Tod Neal of Tennessee; five sisters, Doris Shepard of Greenville, Eloise Forsythe and husband Henry of Stonewall, Laverne Adams of Gilbertown, Ala., Kathy Stevenson and husband Alex of Benton, Mary Foster and husband Owen of Winona; and six grandchildren, Sarah Keeton Odom, Gray Odom, Jax Odom, Preston Odom, Greer Odom, and Adelaide Odom.
The family received friends Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial followed in Greencrest Gardens in Belzoni, all under the direction of Burton Funeral Home.
