Jerry Lane Steed, 69, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his home.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, March 9, with Celebration of Life services immediately following, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville. The Rev. Mark Kelly officiated. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Ray Funeral Home of Cleveland.
Mr. Steed was born in Indianola, on July 28, 1948, to Herman Ezell Steed and Jewel Amanda Reid Steed. He proudly served our country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. During his service, he received numerous awards such as Dress Blue and Most Outstanding Marine, and he was also honored with a Purple Heart. On May 10, 1989, he married Jacqueline Charlene Tindall in Greenville. Jerry was a member of Greenville Elks Lodge and Emmanuel Baptist Church. During his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, running, and lifting weights.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Ezell Steed and Jewel Amanda Reid Steed; brothers, Herman “Sonny” Steed and Randy Steed; sister, Carolyn Coleman; and nephew, Mitch Mitchell.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Charlene Tindall Steed; four sons, Brad Kellum (Bennette), Park Kellum, Jay Steed, Jr. (Lindsey) and Jason Campbell (Ashton); two daughters, Ashley Campbell and Rebecca Steed Poe; grandchildren, Hudson Steed, Parker Steed, Skylar Steed, Kinsey Melancon, Bailey Kellum, Evan Kellum, Macie Kellum, Landon Griffith, Ayden Hughes, Ava Hughes, Luke Poe, Lane Poe, Camp Campbell, and Farah Bates Campbell; one sister, Ellen Steed Mitchell (Billy); two brothers, Melvin Steed and Carl Ray Steed; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family members.
Pallbearers were Jason Campbell, Brad Kellum, Jay Steed, Park Kellum, Brad Poe, and Scott Mitchell.
In memory of Mr. Steed, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
