Jimmy King Purvis, 68, of Belzoni, passed away suddenly Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at his home.
Jimmy was born Apr. 22, 1949, in Yazoo City to John Dansby and Norma McRaney Purvis. Jimmy attended school in Belzoni and was a 1967 graduate of Belzoni High School. He was a farm equipment dealer. Jimmy established Purvis Equipment in Belzoni in 1980 and owned and operated Jimmy K. Purvis Farms. He had a passion for buying and selling farm equipment. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Belzoni and a member of First Baptist Church. Following the death of his wife in 2014 and after a 20-year absence from deer hunting, he began hunting again. A new spirit came to his life, and it made him a new man. The week before he passed away, he killed a 12-point buck. Jimmy loved his work and deer hunting, but he loved nothing more than his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Dansby Purvis; and his wife, Renee Hawkins Purvis.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Norma McRaney Purvis of Belzoni; two daughters, Leah Kaye Purvis Walcott and husband Kenneth of Hernando, and Dansby Kaitlin Purvis of Belzoni; one son, John Brannon Purvis and wife Melissa of Inverness; one brother, John M. Purvis and wife Lora of Belzoni; and six grandchildren, Christian, Caleb, Madelyn, Cason, Lila Blake, and Daisy Nay.
The family received friends Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, from 12 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. funeral service at First Baptist Church in Belzoni. Burial followed in Mathena Cemetery in Belzoni. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was in charge of arrangements.
