
John Harris Brownlee Jr.

John Harris Brownlee Jr. of Hensley, Ark. died Thursday, Feb. 7,
2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 79.
Coach Brownlee was born Feb. 11, 1939 in Indianola, to John Harris
Brownlee Sr. and Gertrude Brownlee. He was a member of Orion Missionary
Baptist Church in Redfield, and had served in the Arkansas National Guard.
After graduation, he played for the Denver Broncos. He retired from
the Helena/West Helena School District as Assistant Superintendent. Ken
Hatfield, former coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, did his internship
with Coach Brownlee at Central High School. As a player, at center
position, Coach Brownlee was all-conference for 4 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
step-dad, Bill Murphy.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Louise Jarboe Brownlee of Hensley;
one son, Derek, and wife Sharon Brownlee of Redfield; one daughter,
Monique, and husband Ricky Harvey of Lonoke County; four grandchildren,
Dixie Brownlee, Cameron Brownlee, Amber Jakus and Brittany Jakus; four
great-grandchildren, Holland, Aussie, Luca and Lennon; and a host of
extended family members, church family, neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at
Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan, Ark., which is in charge of
arrangements.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Orion
Missionary Baptist Church in Redfield with Bro. Jim Easley officiating.
Burial will follow at Orion Cemetery.
